Blue Origin’s Historic All-Female Spaceflight with Katy Perry and Gayle King
Blue Origin Launches Historic All-Female Crew to Space, Featuring Katy Perry and Gayle King
Origin's recent spaceflight, Mission NS-31, achieved a significant milestone in the history of space exploration.
Launched on April 14, 2025, from West Texas, this mission marked the first all-female crewed flight to the edge of space since 1963. The crew consisted of six women: pop star Katy Perry, journalist Gayle King, aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Blue Origin founder Jeff Bezos.
The suborbital flight, aboard the New Shepard rocket, lasted approximately 11 minutes. During this time, the crew experienced weightlessness and viewed Earth from the Kármán line, the internationally recognized boundary of space. The capsule separated from the booster mid-flight and returned safely to Earth via parachutes.
This mission is part of Blue Origin's broader efforts to promote space tourism and increase female representation in space exploration. The flight was livestreamed, allowing viewers worldwide to witness this historic event.
In addition to this, Blue Origin's New Glenn rocket successfully completed its inaugural orbital flight, NG-1, earlier this year. Launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, NG-1 is designed for heavy-lift missions, capable of delivering large payloads into orbit.
Looking ahead, Blue Origin is preparing for the Blue Moon Pathfinder mission, a robotic lunar landing scheduled for August 2025. This mission aims to demonstrate critical technologies for future lunar exploration,
including precision landing and cryogenic propulsion systems.
These developments underscore Blue Origin's commitment to advancing space exploration and making space more accessible.
